My concentration revolves around the feeling of discomfort. No one enjoys to feel uncomfortable, so as humans we avoid it. I want my pieces to evoke tension from the viewer. Through the use of combining body parts and objects, I create a surrealist feel. Surrealism is a big part of my concentration, I’m inspired by artists such as Salvador Dali. As humans we can’t help but look at things that are strange. The viewer will want to look away, but curiosity will take over so they will keep looking.

Most of my pieces include tension between two realistic body parts or an object. Each piece has a different type of cringe factor to it. Eyeballs as egg yolks and a rotting apple with an eye inside will cause the viewer to lose their appetite. An oversized eyeball with a hand crawling out of it, shows tension, like the fingers are scratching the inside of the eye. The exaggerated size creates a monstrous, nightmarish effect. Learning how to take the feeling of discomfort and creating it into pieces of art has taught me to really go outside of my comfort zone. I am constantly getting new ideas from just looking at my previous art, or the things around me. The bowls with the eye and mouth at the bottom inspired my whole concentration. I feel that I truly got to portray myself through my work this year.
